Ontario Lawyers end Boycott

The Association of Ontario criminal lawyers has accorded to end an almost eight-month-long boycott of some legal aid cases, after reaching upon an agreement with the provincial government with increased funding.
The deal, announced late Sunday afternoon, provides for a 40% increase in the present top rate of $97 per hour to $135 per hour by April 2015, for standard criminal cases. The legal aid rate will increase by 66% over the next five years for so-called "big cases" such as murder trials and gun or gang related proceedings.
